Someone help me figure this one please. What exactly is
DJ Khaled?
Okay, I know a few things, let me start.
He is a pudgy Arab. He drops N bombs like they're having a 10 for 1 sale (sidenote: when did Arab's get a pass for dropping N bombs?) He is from
Miami. He has a radio show. He has a lot of friends who rap. And given all the the guest appearances from him, I'm guessing he has incriminating pictures of
Lil' Wayne. Maybe he's got a picture of
Wayne making out with
Baby. Oh wait, nevermind. He obviously never paid attention(nnnnnn) to the backlash against
DJ Clue for oft-repeated, always unnecessary and uber obnoxious catch phrases. He uses phrases like "we the best" in head scratching ways. Like "would you like to biggie size your 4 combos sir?" "We the best." Huh? Exactly. Given the previous, he also may be mildly retarded. Just close your eyes and listen(nnnnnn) to him, I wouldn't argue a theory that claimed there was autism in the water supply in Dade County.
Guess I missed something,
Khaled also has albums for sale that have his name on them.
That is the part I'm trying to figure out. What exactly does he do? Why are these albums classified as his?
The way I understand it, artists create music and release said music with their name on it.
Khaled doesn't rap. He is a DJ. But
Khaled doesn't mix, cut or scratch. Oh, and he doesn't really produce anything either.
The only pass he could (maybe) be getting here is that since he brings all these artists together (and there is a lot of them on his albums), and is like the executive producer and masterminds the concepts and structure of the songs and album (all this ignores the fact that being an exec producer doesn't make it your album anyway).
Have you ever listened or even listennnnnned to "his" albums? There is nothing resembling structure or concept. Don't get me wrong, there are some serious bangers on his latest. But telling 34 emcees to rhyme over this dope beat someone else made doesn't really qualify for making an album in my books. If that is what qualifies for being an artist now then
Diddy is Beethoven.
Shit, I'm gonna start selling the mix CD's I make with my name on them. I've got the songs, I sequenced them, I fit them onto an 80 minute CD...am I really that far off?
Doesn't really matter I suppose, we all know the answer to any of the above questions.
We the best.
