Twista, Pharoahe Monch and Smirnoff -- Good Shit!

Last week was bananas! I did a lot of running around from Tuesday through Saturday, and I got the pics and details to prove it.

The crazy week started out on Tuesday with a Twista listening session. His album, Adrenaline Rush 2007 is due out in August. Basically, the title is a throwback to his debut, Adrenaline Rush, because a lot of the album has an old school Twista/Midwest sound. He has guest appearances by Pharell (Give it Up, the vid is dropping soon), Bone Thugs, etc. For the most part, it's a really beat driven album, but overall, I thought it was aight. Opinions seemed to be mixed. Out of a room full of 7 people, I managed to get about 3 opinions. One out of the three thought it was really good, the second thought it was aight (as in not great but not horrible, such as myself), and the last person thought it was straight garbage. I wouldn't go that far, but to each is own. You'll be the judge when it drops. One thing about the album, that I think is bananas is the introduction of "Juke Music" to the rest of the world. Apparently, "Juke Music" is really big in Chi-Town. It basically sounds like chopped and screwed mixed with club music. Describing it probably doesn't do it justice, but I think it's dope. They're not sure whether they're going to drop the particular single that is Juke Music, but it's a possibility. Plus, the sound has also been picked up by TVT because they were feeling what they heard through Twista's stuff. We'll see...

Wednesday was all about Pharoahe Monch's listening session. Desire drops this Tuesday and it's a classic folks! He's also a real cool dude. I chatted it up with him a little bit and I couldn't help but like him. I hope he does well despite the fact that he's very slept on. Such is life, I suppose.

And now on to the visual shit...

I went to a party on Thursday called "Smirnoff Presents In the Mix," which was a celebration of some of the most talented producer/DJs Hip-Hop has ever seen. Pete Rock, 9TH Wonder and DJ Premier were spinning under one roof for what turned out to be a dope party. It was hosted by Ed Lover and the highlight was when 9TH brought out Buckshot, who performed a joint they have together, but of couse, "I Gotcha Opin" too. And, the free drinks all night via Smirnoff had everybody crazy nice. Here are the pics (interviews from that night are coming soon):

Friday was whatever. There wasn't anything going on, but Saturday was the Third Annual Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival featuring Ghostface. I didn't want to make this blog too long so I'll post those pics up tomorrow (or later on today).
