Diggin in the Inbox

You know, I get a LOT of shit sent to my inbox.  A lot of it honestly doesn’t appeal to me, so I give it a listen and then forget about it permanently. A lot of it is really good, but then I just don’t have a convenient time to sit down and post it. Each approach is flawed. For one thing, just because I don’t like something, doesn’t mean everyone else won’t like it either. Secondly, not having time is a really craptastic excuse for not posting something good. Shame on me.

So, with all that said, I may just start randomly putting up posts every now and then that consist of the five (or so) most recent things in my inbox. It won’t be systematic, so don’t go trying to blow my shit up every Monday at 2:18pm or something crazy like that. I may not even ever do this again. But it’s Sunday, I’m bored, and I’m willing to take a bit of a risk. My only condition this time around is that I’ll be choosing the five most recent messages that feature DMV artists. Let’s get into this…

First up in the Inbox Fresh Five is Virginia’s R.E.U.B. He goes in over both the “Swagger Like Us” and “Dead Presidents” instrumentals. Keep an eye on this guy – he definitely has a lot to say. And what other NOVA heads around here remember when Springfield Mall was the place to be during the evenings? My, how things change…what up, Mark?

Number two isn’t something to listen to, but more of a news item: a Wale track, featuring production by Judah, is going to be on Saints Row 2, for all of you hip hop gaming heads out there. It’s called “Ridin’ In That Black Joint”. Stay on the look out.

Third in the ‘box is a DMV collab track between Lyriciss and Pro’Verb. Yeah, that Pro’Verb. Don’t act like you’ve forgotten. It’s called “The Rapture”, and Lyriciss sent along this little story with the track…

“Howard Homecoming, some of the greatest in the industry come out, and of course, the DMV's most promising up-and-coming MCs also make their way to the festivities. After chilling with a few notable names (Wale, Marky, 9th Wonder, Young Guru, HipHopGame.com's Jabari, Mo Betta, & more), I run into the homie Pro'Verb. Some of you remember him from dissing Jay-Z in that whole LeBron-Stevenson thing, but yeah...hip-hop is more than that, people. So we go straight from HU to the studio and spend the night recording. The product? "The Rapture". It's actually 11 AM and we're still in the studio from last night, so yeah...that says where the mindstate is. Attached picture JUST taken, and you can pretty much tell lol. But...we're not rappers. That's our story and we're sticking to it lol.”

He also sent a YouTube link to a video documenting his Howard Homecoming experience…

Peep cameos by Tabi Bonney, 9th Wonder, Wale…yes, Wale is holding a trophy with a golden Nike boot on it. Word.

Number four also features Lyriciss. Yep, again. His people are on their e-mail game or something, I guess. Topics: Howard Homecoming and…Arizona beverages? I think the changing of the seasons makes people in the DMV a little crazy, don’t you think? They must be crazy to be hating on that 99 cent Mucho Mango. Linkage courtesy of D.Omen.

Last but not sequentially least, we have a track from someone who you should be familiar with if you pay attention to the DX audio section: Wordsmith. The track is called “Nobody Cares”, features Skyzoo, and was produced by Strada. Wordsmith is reppin hard for Maryland. This track is off the upcoming “The Revolution Begins with a Takeover” Vol. 2 mixtape, brought to you by HipHopDX and DJ Denox.

Like I said, I may stick with this idea, and I may not. Only time will tell. Until then, enjoy the freshest inbox material of the moment.
