Pimp C is that dude man

outside of being a dope ass producer/mc and basically overall living legend in the game i have never read or heard an interview where pimp c has bit his tongue, ever.

prime example is this interview he did on atlanta's power 107.9 today

nigga, nigga... NIGGA! i aint one to fan the flames and be gossipin on a business that im tryna get my peice of but i am one to enjoy an artist who dont got a problem expressing their opinion AND who checks the media on their 'comment contortionism'. they tried to paint him into a corner and frame his words up. at the 9:20 mark they try and make him call niggas one hit wonders and he backed them niggas down quick, listen to old girl answer him when he asked her if she see's how it works. scolded!

for real man, this shit is awesome. i dont know what i missed on atlanta radio or in ozone magazine but apparently he said something in ozone magazine that atlanta felt was dispairaging and then he called up to the radio station and weighed in HEAVY on the comments he made. the only reason im postin this shit for real is because its rare for artists to stand by their convictions especially when they may be openly offensive yet still possess truths.

we too blessed and we havin too much money to be goin to war with each other... if we dont clean out our own closet who gonna clean it for us... we dont get no social commentary, no kinda knowledge... them boys aint got no prices like that in atlanta... im dissin erybody lyin about sellin drugs (c) PIMP C

yo bun man tell yo boy i said thank you, for real. this interview needs to be broken into individual tracks, titled and fucking released as a companion disc to alot of these niggas albums for real. beyond all the inflammatory questioning that went on during the interview this nigga is dropping some real shit. kudos nigga... kudos

no seriously this shit is fucking fantastic man...

Michel Gondry: Kanye knew what was up.

while surfing the internets as i usually do for things i bumped into this very short clip:

while a few of you probably know him from directing this:

or if you like avant garde artsy fartsy film you would know him from this:

and if you only watch music videos you would remember that our favorite avante garde artist used him for this clip:

and if you know his work via that video or dave chappelle's block party thats cool, but take some time to check out his other clips. the guy does some tremendous work with non hip hop artists. ive been up on him since i saw his clip for bjork's human behavior but I still dont feel like ppl are fully aware of the creative mind that is amongst them. So i figured id just post up a few of my favorite clips

okay ill stop youtubing you to death. I just wanted to shed some light on a guys whose work i truely admire. I'd love to work with him one day and think i should maybe actively pursue that. I dont see too many cats pushing the boundaries for videos in hip hop and thats why kanye is kinda lauded by mass media, because he does low brow high art so well.

if anybody replies to this id be amazed lol

50 Cent got money, Common's forever was found & Micheal Jackson thrilled...

That shit is a jam, seriously. Merry go round is a very bad song, i dont even think its intended audience (the bitches) like that shit but i DO know that i like 'i get money'. Is it just me or is he kinda killin that beat? i know he dont care about rappin no more and he is just kinda fulfillin his contractual terms but this joint kinda got me a LIL excited for curtis (pause?) btw? anybody seen cam?

and did yall read that interview where tony yayo said superb wrote the majority of ghostface's opus 'supreme clientele'? furthermore did yall hear the clip of perb callin from jail sayin that he did in fact write alot of the stuff on there as a way into the game and ghost never gave him credit? and on top of that have yall heard those superb joints that predated supreme clientele where he spit the same verses from supreme clientele?

so finding forever leaked... if you got it consider yourself lucky. i hear that the links are being yanked down and thrwarted left and right. for those of you that heard it what do you think? i hear that its pretty damn good. you can see him perform alot of the new album on this youtube page right HERE (shoutout to the homegirl ericka... you are awesome and ill have soem new music for you sooner than later

and these two clips are jsut kinda cool:

*no homo, just heard the term again last night and thought id toss it in there...
**i found the massive thriller reenactment clip via the homie johnbook btw adn the bollywood joint is credited to filthy, trackademicks and being bored on tour lol

The best youtube clip I've seen in days

This clip may be like 3 minutes long but the first 30 seconds are the only thing you need to watch. Something amazing happens at the :25 second mark and the other five seconds after that you are somewhere between dying of laughter and O_O I mean we know spike knows not the ways of the 07 streets and i dont think he thought about his words in the same way that the homophobic hip hop nation does. (yes i know pause is more of a joke than an actual affirmation of sexual orientation but still, its kinda overdone, way overdone) but nonetheless this shit is hilarious.

the best part about it is that he knew he couldnt hit spike with the no homo cus with all the gay bashing that recently popped off in the etertainment and sports worlds (isaiah washington and that basketball dude that hates fags) he knew by saying 'no homo' he was pretty much giving a two weeks notice, so he went with pause. He knew that a slang enthusiast would catch his drift and he also knew that the checkwriters wouldnt which makes it EVEN better. Like ppl that didnt get it were prolly like 'he is just acknowledging the lull in conversation' cus spikes statment did have a hefty silence behind it. But we know what that was all about and we think it is hilarious...

Brian Coleman may be single handedly saving hip hop

One of the things that frustrates me the most about this whole mp3 thing is that its turning cover art and liner notes into an afterthought. Shit to take it a step beyond hip hop has long since kinda just abandoned liner notes and only a few groups really put any thought/effort into them besides the shout outs.Hip Hop is a pretty young genre in general with regards to the music scene and its popularity and that is kinda scary when you think that nobody really cares to document it and the only ppl who can document it properly arent doing so because they are too busy either making it or making money off of it. Most of the straight from the horses mouth hip hop books are either controversial tell all exposes or self indulgent memoirs that only serve to big up the author.

That is why im so happy to have found this book right here:

This shit is amazing if you are a real live fan of music. It has backstory and facts from some classic albums man as a matter of fact here is the list of chapters....

each chapter goes into a brief history of the group which is pretty much like a behind the scenes look at how everybody met each other and what led to their record deal and then he lets the artist break the song down track by track. here is an excerpt* from the chapter on too short

the dopest part about reading this is that you can glean the artists demeanor from reading their words and if you follow hip hop and read/watch interviews you can damn near read it in the artists voices at times. or maybe i just got a crazy imagination but i swear to god while im readin these chapters i can almost hear the artist speaking.

at anyrate the book should be at all your major booksellers but if you wanna get your ecommerce on roll on over to www.waxfacts.com for ordering information. its a really dope read.

*this excerpt was actually taken from his first book named 'rakim told me' which was the predecessor to 'check the technique. check the technique is an expanded version of rakim told me so all the chapters are included and a whole lot more are added.

I met ma dukes aka J-Dilla's mom changed my life.

So im finally settling in and unpacking from my fourth of july weekend and the 2 shows in Detroit. I'll spare you the awesome details of how much BBQ i ate and how many fireworks i popped off and tell you about Motown.

As i previously blogged we played two shows there Cityfest and the J Dilla Tribute. No slight to Cityfest but I was really excited to play the Dilla tribute because I'm a huge fan. We get to the venue and of course the Detroit hip hop scene is in there heavy. T3, Fat Cat, Dwele and Houseshoes among others. I got to dap up everybody and meet them for the first and second times but the most important person i met that night was Maureen Yancey aka Ma Dukes.

I aint gonna sit here and lie like we hit it off and she gave me the key to the basement to let me roll thru and use Dilla's drum machine or some shit, nah. In actuality it was a very quick simple meeting but still one of the most humbling experiences in my life. I was postulating what i would say to her all day and how i would sequence the sentences and pace the words so that i didnt seem to be talkin her ear off but just you know chattin it up but all that shit flew out the window when i finally walked up to the table and spoke. I shook her hand and mumbled something about how big of an honor it was and her son and his influence and she graciously smiled and said she couldnt wait to see us perform.

Honestly i never get nervous before shows but that shit made me nervous as hell. Yall prolly think im buggin but dude is one of my biggest influences so to know im gonna be rocking for her just kinda was the icing on the cake. Factor in that im sharing the bill with people who know dilla dog personally and it almost felt like i was just showin up to somebody's family reunion askin for a hamburger on that 'im cousin pete' shit. I so just wanted to fall back and watch the show but the promoters, other artists AND ma dukes thought we needed to be on that stage or else we wouldnt have been there right? Besides, it was for dilla so I had to put on my game face.

The venue was set up to be real intimate, no real stage just a performance area and a table placed square in front of the stage. Seated at said table were Dilla's mom and dad and maybe 2 other people im not sure who the other person was. Let me be all the way honest with yall right here man. This was probably the scariest show i have ever done personally, usually im animated, jumpin around talkin to the crowd... i looked and saw ma dukes nad just kinda froze up a lil bit. The nervousness shook by the first song and i finally fell into my groove but looking into the room and seeing his mom smiling at me and nodding her head to our music and enjoying the set was probably the most gratifying thing in the world.

I caught up with her for a second after the set and again told her how appreciative i was to be able to take the stage and she smiled and looked at me and said 'are you kidding? you guys were great! thank you!'

I will never be able to say i worked with or met dilla or even that he liked my music but for some strange reason, knowing how close him and his moms were from reading/watching all the interviews i have i can honestly say i feel validated, almost as if she gave us his seal of approval. And thats fine by me.

Ayo Detroit, what yall doin on July the 5th?

So where did we leave off? Oh yeah we were here:

playin the brooklyn hip hop festival was fun, lots of fun. apparently there is no real footage of it floating around so that clip will have to suffice for those of you who have never seen Tanya Morgan get busy. And if you are wondering when we will be doing our thing again i got some good news for all my Detroit folk...

the homie finale is hosting this joint so ill finally get to meet him in person which will be pretty cool considering that we just did a dope ass joint for my upcoming project with fresh daily. i cant front tho im kinda weirded out by the fact that its an all female show (aside from us) i guess thats what naming your group after a woman will do for you, put you around the women. But looking at the names its definitely not bad company to be in. this is our first time playing detroit. when we were out on tour we played ann arbor with one be lo and then swung by detroit to catch a few drinks with the homie black milk and hung out with elzhi and nick speed at the studio. this time around i'll probably be hittin up guilty simpson although he may still be overseas. who knows, regardless we will more than likely see big tone. i figure one of those guys can show us around the city or something.

okay yall, as a HUGE dilla fan this shit got me hype. HYPE! we have been supposed to play a dilla tribute since the CMJ and they kept falling thru so this joint is the icing on the cake for me. and ma dukes is gonna be there? sheeeit... thats whats up! nigga im amped. i wonder ill illa j be in the house? it'll be cool to see dwele again and all my other motown people. and we get to perform? man listen.... its truely gonna be an honor.

ill be back later to let yall know how it went. okay lemme go dig into some of this BBQ and pop off some of these fireworks...
