Omazing Grace

I dont know if yall remember the TV show 'Life Goes On' but it was about a loveable down syndrome guy and his adventures with us nondevelopmentally challenged people. We would tune in and root for Corky and laugh at his dilemnas once a week and although it wasnt supposed to be funny, we would laugh. It was one of them warm heart felt sappy drama-comedy shows, where they would teach life lessons and shit. It was a pretty good show. Which leads me to my point, a developmentally challenged person is not exempt from doing funny shit. People are people and some dont fall under the classical description of normal, that does not mean that they cant just be unintentionally funny.

Case in point, I did a short stint working in mental health and the two people I looked after were an austic guy named Robert aka Silent Rob and this other dude with down syndrome named somethingthatescapesmerightnow. At anyrate the down syndrome guy got mad cus he found out I was chillin a little too hard on the job and he started kinda berating me. Basically i was working the night shift and when they tucked in at 10pm I'd wait till them niggas started snoring and catch my own z's. Sometimes dude would wake up to raid the fridge and my napping worked for him in that respect. I was like a watchdog and he wasnt supposed to snack past bedtime. As long as I was waking them up and getting them off to work with breakfast and a bagged lunch i was doin my job tho, or so i thought.

Long story short the down syndrome nigga's big sister got at him one day on some "yo why all the snacks keep dissappearing" and he was all "WELL IF THE GUY YALL HIRED WAS AWAKE WHEN I GOT HUNGRY IT WOULDNT BE HAPPENING'" and im all "bitch i got another full time job whats wrong if he want some gummy bears at 3am? let them have cake!" So one day we had a huge blow up over him asking me to lotion his back (nohomo) and I was NOT on that shit yo. I mean real talk who the fuck lotions their back anyway? Yall niggas prolly at work readin this with an ashy ass back right now simply because you cant reach it. But the point to him asking was less about moisturizing and more about 'YOU GOTTA DO SOMETHING YOU CANT JUST BE ON MY COUCH SLEEP!' That was my last day on the job. I'll be damned if i lotion another niggas back that ain't my progeny and even then lil man better figure that shit out on his own man, i got my own back to worry about.

The other dude Robert was chill man. We would just sit around watching TV and he would never speak, the down syndrome dude would talk way too fucking much and he was always tryna watch some boring shit on TV. One morning Silent Rob was sitting around watchin an episode of 'Sister Sister' or some shit with me that had something to do with a girl not liking a dress that was bought for her. Silent Rob goes "See thats why you cant buy bitches SHIT! They dont appreciate it, they never do." I was floored. At that moment I realized that missing chromosomes and all that shit dont negate anything man, them niggas is just as normal as us.

That said on today May 8, 2007 I would like to officially lift the moratorium on stifling laughter at disabled people. Them niggas can get guffawed at just like any other red blooded american.
