Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival Recap

DEAR GETTY: whoever credited us as kidz in the hall over at getty please fix it.. PLEASE! naledge and double0 are the homies but im sure they would rather be credited as themselves. shout out to them tho, they are the homies and im dying to get in the studio with em. me and double 0 been talkin about it for a minute and since naledge and ilyas are both in town we gonna see what we can do about it.

okay so im just gonna go out on a limb and say saturday was was probably the most important show we have played to date.

we were scheduled to go on at 1:30pm and im not gonna front i was kinda worried about that early slot cus when a show rocks til 8pm and you are rockin at the top of the lineup its not exactly prime realty. i mean somebody has to open the show and in the words of little brother it IS so much better being ya opening act but thanks to Poison Pen being added to the line up on the spot and the hip hop gods we didnt hit the stage until roughly 3pm. By that time a nice lil crowd had accumulated and we were good and jittery.

gotta take the bitter with the sweet tho and while a later slot time was pretty damn sweet they told us we would lose 3 minutes of our set. we spazzed for a minute but then decided to cut ilyas' sittin at the bar verse and the entire 30minute outro to walk this/my way (i have no idea what that song is called, shit i dont even know the chorus to and you say yet lol) we usually run a pretty terse set anyway and we are just learning how to not be so mechanical and interact more, especially me. i HATE talking to the crowd lol. rapping is easy, talking not so much but the intro to sittin at the bar has really helped me with that phobia.

but for me personally something amazing happened on stage, something i have been trying to do for a long time but never have been able to do, i literally blacked out. Usually it takes me the entire set to warm up and finally get to the zone but from the beginning of the first song i was there this time. it felt incredible. like honestly i dont know what the crowds reaction was cus i was just having so damn much fun, it was almost like they werent there. as i bounced from stage to speaker to stage doin my lil dances and adlibs and pacing my breath and controlling my tone and interacting with my band i kinda just phased the crowd, both bridges, a huge body of water and the world out. nothing was there but the stage, my crew and the music.

i hear we did pretty good tho for the rest of the day there was a steady stream of people who came for us or discovered us that day giving up love. now maybe im weird but i still trip off of getting love because well that is what feeds my music in a way, knowing that the people who listen still care. i took a photo with one guy who was only 15, do yall know how crazy that is? 15! i know how impressionable i was when i was 15 and to think that im making an impression on somebody is nuts. seriously man... i mean i remember crafting my life after artists images man. the way they looked, the way they talked the way they moved i imitated as much of it as i could realistically. and when it was time to sell dope and call women bitches, hey i tried my best to keep up. (well the callin women bitches thing still sticks but im workin on it) but its just a weird feeling knowing that you matter. not in the sense of your mom or dad loves you but in the sense that a complete stranger feels a connection to you...yes im getting emo and damnit i deserve to be. i mean did you see the line up? this was the line up and this is as close to chronological order as i can get:

Print - i didnt get to see print but his myspace page is dope
Blitz - i didnt get to see this cat either but again, myspace page is dope
Pack FM - didnt get to see them
Kidz in the Hall - i made it a point to see their set the fact that we . double 0 is the homie and i just met naledge. im a fan of their music so i wanted to take advantage of the opportunity to see em rock. it was dope even tho the wind hates serato and dj's in general.
Poison Pen - ive known pen for a few years now, he wasnt on the line up but ive seen him rock a few times. nice on and off the mic
Tanya Morgan - im in the group and we are awesome
Emily King - thanks to press i missed her set again but she is a sweetheart, very cool girl
El Michels Affair - again the press made me miss it
Skillz - the press pressed on...
Large Professor - i think at this point i had went to eat cus i hadnt eaten anything since 8pm the previous evening. i caught up with him after his set and put my foot in my mouth, :/ sometimes i say really jumbled shit and it comes out all wrong. my bad.
Dres - i was returning from my meal but i got to say hi, I havent forgot his advice.
Consequence - i saw his set and we kept jokin about how kanye was gonna cruise up on a yacht and joint him for the good, bad and ugly, it didnt happen.
Sean P/BCC - i had walked off to make a phone call/absorb what was goin on around me at this point. or was that for skillz? i dotn remember i donteven remember the set order. i know i caught quite a bit of their set tho. nice...
Ghostface Killah - at this point i was exhausted but i still had enough energy to whyle out on my jams. i mean its tony starks for christ sakes!
special guests Jeru Tha Damaja, Chubb Rock, Channel Live, Fat Joey Crack
the only one of these guys i saw on stage was fat joe, other than that i remember hearing them all and each time going "OH SHIT IS THAT _____?!?!?!"

now look at that line up. seriously. LOOK AT IT. this show was like our graduation ceremony or something. i mean its one thing to share a stage with one of them but its a whole nother thing to share the stage with all of them. crazy... fucking nuts!

to everybody that made it out for our set thanks a bunch and it was nice rockin with yall, to those of you who missed our set how was the rest of the show? what were your highlights?

for those of you who missed it... for shame lol
