Brillyance Brings the Reason

     I originally attempted to post this on MLK day, but, the blog editor isn't to big on me. Well, last time I posted here, I talked about the racial issues that popped off last year. Surprisingly, some of ya'll agreed with that America's next top model tramp on her views of BET and Black History Month. I guess. Well, I wanted to say something, so, before I post a blog about the best music of last year, I figured I should touch on my feelings of what the stupid heffa said.

First and foremost remember, just because someone doesn't do their job it doesn't mean the position shouldn't exist. It means that muthafucka should be fired and replaced. Take George W. Bush for example....you'll probably understand what I mean later.

     Ok, first and foremost I have to admit, as far as Black History Month goes, I partially agree. There shouldn't be a black history month. YOU SHOULD LEARN ABOUT BLACK PEOPLE ALL YEAR LONG! We play just as big a part in the history of this country as anybody else, if not bigger. Had it not been for the money made from slavery, who knows where this country would have been. We didn't build this city...we literally built this country up. Sure, over time, other people were taken advantage of, like the people of China out west during the western expansion, and the Mexicans of today, but had it not been for slavery, this country may not....no,wouldn't have made it this far. Yet and still, when we do get a "black history month" all you hear is:

Niggas was slaves
George Washington Carver got it poppin with the peanut
Martin Luther King had a dream

     There's a lot more shit to speak on than that. There's enough shit to last longer than a short month, there's enough for a year. We played a major role in everything major that happened in this country, yet all you hear about is "MLK was a great man". Bullshit. We're all Americans if anybody deserves a history month it's Native Americans because "we" destroyed their culture? First of all, "we" didn't do shit. Second of all, as much as I remember (or don't), I don't know what specific part of Africa my people come from, I don't know what language they spoke, I don't know what their original religion is...as much as I'm concerned "we" (meaning ya'll...whoever she was referring to) destroyed my culture. Don't think cuz we came up with some new shit it's all good. "Ah naw, ya'll niggas got new slang, hip hop, all sorts of new stuff, ya'll good" Fuck that. My culture was destroyed. Fuck a history month, anytime you study American history, we should be spoken on. We're all American until shit matters, then American is blonde haired youth in young clothes.

     I'm about to say something I never thought I'd say. BET is necessary. Yea...I said it. Maybe not the BET we all know and hate, but some form of Black Entertainment Television is definitely needed. Why not? White people got White Entertainment Television...it's called MTV, CBS, NBC, ABC, and every other fucking channel on TV. Sure, some networks show black people, like MTV, but for the most part, networks don't give a shit about black people. It's all good, I know channels are concerned with ratings. I'm sure the majority wouldn't care to see black people all the time. However, some of "us" would like to see "us" fairly represented on television. How do you have a show based in New York and have no Blacks, Ricans,Cubans, or Dominicans (cuz ya'll niggas too) on "Friends" or "Seinfeld"? All right then. You guys don't want to see "us", ok then, that's the purpose for BET. Plain and simple. FOX news doesn't give a fuck about black people unless their "looting" in New Orleans. Fine...give me a channel that's gonna give me news about my people. I don't give a shit about Ms. Spears or Paris Hitler, or none of them hoes. Give me a channel that's gonna tell me about people I MIGHT give half a shit about. THAT's the clear purpose for a channel like BET. It's not like other people don't have their own channels. Mexicans have Telamundo. Don't give me that "They have that channel because they speak a different language"...this is America, and the language of America is English. I'm sure most people who watch Telamundo understand English just fine, they just don't want to hear that bullshit the other networks are giving them because for the most part they don't relate to it. How come there hasn't been a Mexican on the Real World? As some of my Mexican peoples would say, not a Hispanic, a Mexican muthafucka. That's because that network doesn't really give a shit about them. That's the reason for Telamundo, cuz Mexicans need a network that's gonna look out for them.

     Now, like I originally said, just because someone doesn't do their job doesn't mean the position shouldn't exist. Just because BET doesn't do its’ job doesn't mean we shouldn't have it. That just means that it should be fired and replaced. I still watch other networks, because there is no REAL black network yet. For the record, I understand that those were black people agreeing with that tramp, and I don't really understand it one bit. I don’t know what America ya'll live in, what TV ya'll watch, or what history classes ya'll took, but this is how I feel based on my experiences in this country.

I have a confession to make

I guess I have to hold off on coming with that new T-shirt design idea I had. Ladies and gentlemen…I have a confession to make. I watched BET…wait, wait, I’m not done. I liked it! Yes…I said, no, I’m not talking about “American Gangster”…I’m talking about the BET Hip Hop Awards. Normally, I don’t fuck with award shows. I don’t care if it’s the Grammy’s, Emmy’s, Oscars, VMA’s, fuck all that shit. Any award shows, definitely on BET, doesn’t get watched by me. However, Phonte was gonna be in the cipher. I had to see that, with the whole “Little Brother’s too intelligent” thing. Ras Kass was gonna be in the cipher, with the whole “Ras Kass is Free” thing (not from jail…he’s been free from there, free from his label), I had to check that and support the west. So…for the first time ever, I watched BET three hours straight. (The Awards for 2 hours, then American Gangster).

Balance. Back when the east ran shit, nobody was asking for balance. New York emcees, New Yorkers, and people who wish they were from New York but weren’t, were happy, cuz “Son got mad play on the radio and TV” and “Dat Boy from down dere” wasn’t heard from. Nobody cared that Atlanta wasn’t being heard from. Nobody cared that New Orleans wasn’t being represented. However, once the west started to dominate, and then into when the south took over hip hop, backpackers started bitching…”it’s unbalanced…all we hear on radio and TV is them, that’s not right…they don’t show us no love” There you go, you got what you wanted. The BET Hip Hop awards brought balance. Common took the lyricist of the year award, and got a tie on the album of the year with T.I. (I don’t know if T.I. should have got that…but shit, Common still won too) Lil Wayne won MVP (shit, he dropped a million freestyles and songs that got respected by most) You had performances by Kanye and Common, then you had performances from Boosie, Wayne, Souljah Boy. Even Busta Rhymes got to perform (even though, I don’t know what the fuck for…but oh well). The dance of the year award wasn’t televised. (Cuz honestly, if it’s not on some B-Boy shit…who gives a fuck)The ciphers were dope (Wyclef tried to bring it. Stat really brought it. Cassidy kicked some old shit…how can YOU be slacking…what’s wrong, couldn’t write no new punch lines in jail or while you were chilling in the hospital?) Outkast and UGK won for best collabo, Kanye won for best Video (it didn’t matter that the song wasn’t that dope, the video was tight and original) and best performer (I’ve never seen him) Things went how they should have went. Was there Cooning going on? Of course there was, but it was balanced, and if you complained about the lack of balance like I did, you can’t knock that.

The only thing I REALLY was bothered by were those sluttish ass dancers dancing around Common. That shit was bad. Did you see how ole’ girl bent her leg backwards and then turned around so you could see her ass? Whack. While I’m not a fan of Souljah Boy or Lil Boosie, I was less bothered by them than Common’s dancers. I KNOW Common didn’t ask for that. Oh yea, I also didn’t like those Jena 6 boys coming out thinking there stars. TAKE THEM DAMN GLASSES OFF YOU FUCKING IDIOT, YOU’RE INDOORS…AIN’T NO DAMN SUN INDOORS, AND THERE’S NOT THAT MANY PICTURES BEING TAKEN OF YOU. Did Stephen Hill give them those outfits himself? Sure Nelly was whack and seemed like he shouldn’t have even been there… but it was balanced out by Lil Wayne. I just hope that Wayne didn’t have what I think he had in that cup with his kids there. They only had one verse from “Wipe Me Down” so they could also let Slightly Cloudy Chris do “Ay Bay Bay”. Cool, “Wipe Me Down” wasn’t that big of a song anyway. They let Souljah Boy close out the awards…cool. You seen how people were going crazy, if there gonna react like that, dude deserves to close the awards, whether I think he’s whack and coonish or not.

So why were the awards that good? Could it be because of Reginald Hudlin (who I just noticed the other day worked on the Boondocks…I bet he’s not working on them this season…that’s why they’ve sucked) Maybe ?uestlove helped out. (Cuz it looked like he didn’t work on VH1 Hip Hop honors…they sucked) I don’t know, but I just hope they keep doing whatever they’re doing, cuz it’ll give me one award show to watch.
