Strong Arm Steady..other dudes... get ya bars up

Ok, so I was asked why I didn’t do that blog on the “N” w…..nigga. Well, I just did a blog on cooning and I don’t know if I alienate certain people (white people) with some of my blogs, but I try to cut back on the possibility of that happening. Now that Phontigallo did the blog about it, I damn sure ain’t doing the blog (no time soon). So something that hasn’t been spoke on………SAS, Strong arm steady.

Define S.A.S.G., were a whole lot of N-W-A, mixed with BDP”
Krondon “Promise”

Let’s keep it real, making the band never worked, and never will. Puffy isn’t trying to make a group that can make quality music. He’s trying to make a show that will get a lot of people with nothing better to do to watch. At least one person got it right. See, back in 2002, Xzibit put together a group of 3 individuals together, and they became SAS, Strong Arm Steady. The group consist Phil Da Agony, Krondon, and Mitchy Slick. Phil Da Agony has been putting it down for awhile out here in Los Angeles. If you listened to the Alkaholiks, Xzibit, or Dilated Peoples, you’ve heard of him before. (he had a solo track on the Expansion Team album) He was a part of a crew called “Barbershop Emcees”.  Krondon emerged on a Self Scientific track titled “Love Allah”. Mitchy Slick is an indie artists straight from the streets of San Diego. Prior to being in Strong Arm Steady he was signed to DJ Muggs’ Angeles records. When the three combine you get a solid unit that represents different aspects of west coast hip hop.

Ok, quick history lesson as far as Strong Arm Steady. They were put together by Xzibit and they dropped a million mixtapes. They signed to Talib Kweli’s Blacksmith records, and Xzibit didn’t want to sign with them, so he left the group. They’re now scheduled to drop their album “Deep Hearted” on August 30th. See I fuck with Strong Arm Steady cuz it’s a group of individuals blended together the right way. Phil the Agony is an emcee’s emcee. He’s like the west coast Kweli. He’s from the streets, but he doesn’t specifically focus on that. He’s often the deepest of the group. This isn’t the same Phil Da Agony from back in the day either. When I first heard dude, I wasn’t a big fan. I didn’t like his verse on Tash “Rap Life” album, I liked Defari’s solo verse on “Expansion Team” more than his, I never liked his on X’s albums or the tracks from the Liks. When I first heard him with SAS however, I was thrown off, dude was far better than he ever was before.  I had to “snatch” up his “Aromatic” album after I heard him with SAS. Krondon is the midpoint of the group. He speaks on the hood shit more than Phil, but yet and still he can spit. I’d put Krondon up against any of those “Smack DVD” dudes from anywhere. He got punchlines, he can switch flows, but at the same time, he often questions the train of thought a lot of people in the hood have. With lines like “Nigga’s rather drink than think, about all the bullshit life brings and how sail boats sink” , it’s obvious he knows what’s up. Mitchy Slick is the on the absolute other end of Phil Da Agony. Mitchy Slick doesn’t speak on the streets, he IS the streets. Mitchy Slick is what alot of these other rappers pretend to be, and you gotta respect the fact it’s real. See out west, when rappers come out claiming a whole lot of shit, if it’s fraudulent, that’s quickly exposed.  He covers the positives and the negatives of what a life like his has brought him. He covers things anyone from the hood can relate to with tracks like “Bass Chasers” from his “Urban Survival Syndrome”. One of the things I really like about Slick is, he notices and speaks on how other areas have taken what was once exclusive to the west coast and used it to sell records, yet now it’s damn near impossible for west coast artists to sell records or even get in the game. (for that, check “I Know” from “Urban Survival Syndrome”, or “Co-Operation” on the upcoming “Deep Hearted”) When you listen to Strong Arm Steady, you get three completely different individuals, yet they all know the other two exists, and they respect the other two.

They say “watch the company you keep,” Strong Arm keeps some pretty damn good company. Signed to Talib Kweli’s label, a mixtape out with Dilated People “Dilated Steady”, and ties to Self Scientific, Planet Asia, Defari, Soul Assassins,  and other dope west coast artists, Strong Arm Steady and their affiliates are the best the west and east coast has to offer. This is real west coast music.

Yea, so check that SAS out when it drops next month, if you want more, check “The Collectors Edition” “Dilated Steady” “Strong Arm Radio: Klak Music”,Phil Da Agony’s “Aromatic” , or Mitchy Slick’s “Urban Survival Syndrome”. All the fakes and perpetrators…get ya bars up.
