The Show

I was gonna do a blog about Dilated Peoples, and live shows, since Dilated always brings it, but I figured with the music Dilated put out, it wouldn't be doing them justice. So I'm gonna have to do a whole blog about Dilated another time. I get extremely annoyed when people try and say hip hop is dead, or it's done, or it's on it's deathbed because there bubble gum rappers aren't selling 5 mill for putting out bullshit anymore. The most talented overall never sold the most. They don't quit though, because they love doing music....and they ARE able to make a living without selling millions of records or their souls. This is because they do concerts. Oh...you thought concerts were dead too? You haven't wanted to see a show since "Up In Smoke"? Then apparently your reading the wrong blog.

"Step to the zone, spotlights on, the sights on, all eyes on, turn the tables and the mic on, fans clap and rock and they scream out loud, this time I give it back and applaud the crowd"
Rakaa Iris Science "Live on Stage"

I've been to several shows...let's rundown a list of people I've seen live in no apparent order.

-Dilated Peoples(several times)
-Murs (several times)
-Little Brother(they need to come back to Cali when they leave Europe)
-Talib Kweli (several times)
-Nas
-Kanye
-Planet Asia
-Big Boi from Outkast(needs to come back with Andre)
-El-P
-Brother Ali
-Lupe Fiasco
-Living Legends
-Blackalicious
-Visionaries(several times)
-Atmosphere(more like Felt, but fuck it Slug and Ant were there, so Atmosphere)
-Sage Francis
-Cage
-Defari
-Common
-Strong Arm Steady
-De La Soul
-Mos Def
-Immortal Technique

Last year I made the mistake of leaving the completely off track "Rock the Bells" early and missing Lauryn Hill and Wu Tang Clan, I won't miss shit this year. There's a complete different vibe hearing your favorite artist live.....if they know how to perform. Some dudes are hella dope, but have no stage presence (should I say who...nah) If you go to a REAL hip hop show, you know, hip hop is no where near dead. I was at Paid Dues Festival, (put together by a rapper who I said I'd cut back on mentioning) that was hip hop. You had DJ's scratching (yea, Dj's do more than just put together mixtapes, like, parties and scratching...) break dancers all sorts of shit going on. As most shows do. Let's go through some of my favorite live show moments in no apparent order.

-DJ Babu killing the turn tables at the House Of Blues (including screwing music by scratching)
-Immortal Technique's rants live ("How many of you have mothers or fathers who are cops......FUCK YO PARENTS NIGGA" or how about "How many of ya'll bought my shit...how many of ya'll burned my shit....STOP BEING LITTLE BITCHES I KNOW YA'LL BURN MY SHIT, I don't give a fuck, but you better play my shit loud in front of your teachers, or cops, or your parents" or even better "IF YOU KNOW THERE'S A CHILD MOLESTER IN YOUR HOOD, AND YOU DO NOTHING ABOUT IT, YOUR A BITCH, KILL THAT MUTHAFUCKA CUZ HE DOESN'T DESERVE TO BREATH")
-Talib's freestyles (he kicks freestyles at every show, he kicked a freestyle at Audiotistic one year and rapper about a homerun that had JUST been hit before he hit the stage.)
-Mos Def doing Umi Says live
-Talib bringing out Common ,Kanye (pre-head inflation) and Planet Asia(Audiotistic again)
-Unmentionable rapper performing "LA" at the end of Paid Dues Festival
-Hearing Chace Infinate spit live like a week after hearing him for the first on "Dilated Steady the mixtape", then buying a Self Scientific Cd directly from DJ Khalil, Chace's DJ and producer
-Breaker battle at Paid Dues Festival
-Talib Kweli performing damn near every Kweli song I've ever heard at the House of Blues
-Slug of Atmosphere telling unmentionable rapper to stop performing a verse to one of they're songs, because he's not gonna get any pussy off the verse anywayz
-Phonte of Little Brother singing "I'm in Love with a stripper (I'm SURE he's a big T-Pain fan)
-Slug of Felt performing songs I've heard with verses I haven't

You don't get this shit sitting in your bedroom listening to a cd. As long as this shit goes on, hip hop won't be dead, won't be leaving, won't be on vacation none of that. Live shows are always going on....well if you live in a smaller town, you may have to go to the nearest big city. Now...very soon, possibly the biggest show in the history of rap is coming to New York(twice), Nor Cal, and So Cal. Originally in So cal, we had the biggest lineup, but now the second NY show has the biggest show. Let's run Down the Line-up shall we.....

-Lucky I Am
-Blueprint
-Hanger 18
-Grouch and Eligh
-Mr Lif
-Cage
-Brother Ali
-Living Legends
-Felt
-Jedi Mind Tricks
-The Coup
-Sage Francis
-Immortal Technique
-MF Doom
-Pharoahe Monch
-EPMD
-Hieroglyphics
-Mos Def
-Talib Kweli
-Erykah Badu
-Nas
-Rakim
-The Roots
-Cypress Hill
-Public Enemy
-Rage Against the Machine
-Wu Tang Clan

Hosted by Supernatural (who broke the Guiness book world record for Freestyling last Rock the Bells) Rahzel, and Hi-tek. The Second New York show is gonna be the only one with Rakim and Erykah Badu, the San Francisco show won't have Brother Ali, Felt(just Murs), or the Living Legends while being the only show to have Hieroglyphics. They also said they'll have special guest, last year it was Lauryn Hill and Phife Dawg came out with De La.  This is gonna be the biggest show EVER! I'm gonna be at the So Cal show in San Bernadino,(if you wanna talk shit, I'll tell you what I'm wearing and DARE you to crush a grape, or you can just say what up and show love when you see me) whether I get sent to cover it by another site (which remains unmentioned) or I pay for it, it's that dope, I'm willing to pay the $150 for the VIP, cuz after getting media passes to cover "Paid Dues Festival", I can't buy normal tickets again. VIP tickets are $150, normal ones are $80, do yourself a favor, GO TO THE SHOW. This shit you tell your grand kids about. This is our generations Woodstock (the original one). Forget the "Ruff Ryder/Cash Money Tour", forget the "Up in Smoke", forget the "Hard Knock Life Tour", forget the "Liquid Mix Tour" and definitely forget this bullshit ass "Street Dreams" tour. How you gonna have a Street Dreams tour without the man who did the song Street Dreams? That tour is called street dreams cuz the artists only DREAM about the streets, THIS IS HIP HOP. July 28th and I believe 29th for NY, August 11th for So Cal at San Bernadino, and August 18th for San Fran. I'm out.....credits...

Get off your ass and go to a show, no cd shout outs this blog.
