Remember that feeling you would get when you heard a CLASSIC album for the first time?

remember when albums used to mean something? when you threw on The Chronic for the first time and youre whole world changed? as if your eyes had been opened and you knew from that moment on, you would never be the same. or when you popped in Common's Be and you were grateful because such an album had been made in a time where 'classics' are almost non-existant. Same goes for Reasonable Doubt, Slim Shady LP, Life After Death, The Blueprint, All Eyes On Me, etc.

how come we dont get that feeling anymore? have we been decensitized to music like that? or is it that music will never be like that again? in our Crank That & Ay Bay Bay days, im starting to lose hope. what was the last hip-hop album to give you that feeling again? not to say there havent been some good albums and mixtapes put out lately because there HAVE, but do you still get that feeling you once did? in a day and age where that is no more, i seem to have found it...

in the form of another genre. surprisingly, of the 'Rock' persuasion. theres this new band out of Canada called Black Mountain and their album is dope, to say the least. these dudes take it back to the Pink Floyd days.

but why is THIS music giving me that feeling and not hip-hop in which ive known all of my life? is this like the new shorty giving you game but your still stuck on the old one? shiit, i even started a ROCK BLOG (http://allthingsrock.wordpress.com) (*shameless plug, ha) but im a hip-hop mixtape DJ (see: I Am Legend). Theres times where i hear the music come back in spurts. A single here, a pretty good album there, but it never FULLY gives you that experience as a whole that you used to experience. shouts out to the homie Torae for giving us Daily Conversation though. now THATS an album you need to go out in cop (for all the REAL hip-hop heads of course).

am i just crazy though? i dont know. prove me different.

i hope hip-hop comes back with a vengeance.
