DX: So was the falling out between the two of you the sex tape? Or were you already broken up at that point?
RJ: I mean, it’s all good. It’s not a "falling out;" it just is what it is. I still got love for her, and she got love for me. And if she say she don’t she’s lying. I wish her success
DX: Okay, now moving on…what’s your love life like now?
RJ: It’s just on hold right now. I’m just really focused on the music and focused on running this company. This new album is independently produced and put out under my label Knockout with Koch and Shaquille O’Neal’s label Deja 34. We're happy to be back on the map so strong and we just wanna keep this ball rollin’.
DX: Good, good…how’s Lil Kim?
RJ: She’s good. I love Kim. She was one of my mentors going into this album. I started out working on this album in her crib in L.A. And that’s sort of when we created the song “Sexy Can I.” Me, her and one of her writers named Shamelle. So hats off to Lil Kim; I love you to death, girl.
DX: Is that in love or just love?
RJ: It’s beyond in love. When you got someone that’s like fam, you’d do whatever for them.
DX: So are there wedding bells in the future? Not necessarily with Kim, but in general are you looking to settle down soon?
RJ: Hell yeah, there will be wedding bells in the future.
DX: So who’s gonna be the woman to finally hold you down?
RJ: She knows who she is, she just got a boyfriend right now. [Laughs]
DX: Oh really? Is it the girl from 702?
RJ: Nah. She’s a beautiful girl, though. You should hear her voice, Oh my God.
DX: So she is a singer?
RJ: You should hear her voice….wow…wait, no! She’s not a singer. She’s a reality star. Yeah, that’s it…a reality star.
DX: You just makin’ shit up now, Ray J
RJ: No, I’m not, she really is. She’s a reality star.
DX: Yeah, well, we’ll see about that….So after you find that woman to hold you down can you promise me you’ll stop singing angry lyrics anal sex in fast food parking lots?
RJ: Listen, that was a one-time line! [Laughs] I know it didn’t sit with you well, but that’s why I’m tryin’ to say we ain't talkin’ bout classy ladies like you. We talkin’ ‘bout the females that look at your man and want to take that nigga from a classy female. We talkin’ bout them bitches! That’s exactly what Kay Slay said…we ain't talkin’ bout the classy women with a head on their shoulders. We talkin’ about sluts, and whores, and dirtbags, and prostitutes, and shit like that. But that’s what [the mixtape] was about. The album isn’t like that.
DX: So tell me, what can we expect from the new album?
RJ: You can definitely expect it to be edgy, just not as edgy as the mixtape. I’m gonna go ahead and say the mixtape wasn’t edgy; it was over the top. [Laughs]
DX: That’s what I’m sayin’! I agree it was a little over the top.
RJ: It wasn’t even a little; It was a lot.
DX: [Laughs] I know! And I really didn’t even expect that from you. Maybe that was the whole point of the project, maybe that’s what you were going for?
RJ: Right. But on this one, on the album, I got lyrics like [sings] “She climb up on the pole/ Then she drop and do the splits/ How she make that pussy talk/ Baby, damn you on some new shit.”
DX: [Rolls eyes] Right, because that’s so much better.
RJ: But it’s sexier. It’s a sexier vibe. It’s not like [sings] “A pretty lil' bitch! / And a nasty lil' cunt!/ And I don’t give a fuck! You should know this / I got a lil' slut! / And she stay in Minnesota.” [Laughs]
DX: [Laughs]
RJ: Even though, I love that record.
DX: Do you? That’s good… I’m glad someone does.
RJ: [Laughs] Oh shit! [Laughs]
DX: [Laughs] I love you Ray J; you’re a good sport.
RJ: That’s what I’m sayin’! So in the interview, you can’t make me out to be a pedophile. You can’t be sayin’ you love me right now, then I go on HipHopDX.com and I’m sounding like an ignorant pedophile! Just you know I’m just playin’ on most of this shit…wait, you didn’t hear the end of Willie’s shit on the mixtape did you?
DX: I don’t think so.
RJ: Yo, that’s when it gets the most graphic!
DX: Oh Jesus…
RJ: You gotta check that out. But then don’t ever listen to it again. [Laughs] Just go and get the new album and don’t ever go back [to the mixtape] again.
