Simon Says: "No more samples."

August 3rd, 2001 | Author:

Rawkus Records is destroying all of the Simon Says singles. No, it's not because Funkmaster Flex played the Pharoahe Monch hit too much, it's because Toho, the company that owns the rights to the song's sample has sued Rawkus.

Pharoahe Monch never received clearance from the company to use the sample, originally from Godzilla, and Toho is not happy about it. The company sued, and now Rawkus is having to remove the song from Pharoahe's album Internal Affairs and is even destroying all the singles! Simon Says "Too bad for Rawkus and Pharoahe Monch." This agreement settles the half-million dollar lawsuit.
