Large Professor Explains Using Old Style On New Album

August 13th, 2008 | Author: Jake Paine

Large Professor will be releasing his first solo album in five years next month in Main Source. Coming on Gold Dust Media, the same label as 40 Cal [click to read] and The Outlawz, the project, as its name alludes to, is a return to the Queens emcee and producer's classic sound. "The difference between this album and 1st Class, is on this album, Main Source, I was just chopping up a bunch of ill loops. On 1st Class, I went more primitive," said Extra P on a promotional video released yesterday.

The album title comes from the group Main Source, headed up by Large Professor, responsible for the classic album Breaking Atoms, responsible for launching the careers of Nas and Akinyele. The 1991 release was reissued earlier this year by Wild Pitch Records [click to read].

Famous for avoiding the limelight, the producer behind classics for Eric B & Rakim [click to read], Nas and Kool G Rap  [click to read] explained his hiatus. "Sometimes you've got to live a lil' life. From my first go-round in the industry, I figured out that you can't live your life in the industry. You do things when time allows - when everything's right."

Recently, the creator of hits like "Halftime," "It Ain't Hard To Tell" and "The Bomb" has been producing for Reks, Presto and Styles P.

Main Source's intro, "The Entrance" can heard presently on HipHopDX [click to listen].

The album features one-time Gang Starr Foundation affiliates Jeru The Damaja and Lil Dap of Group Home, in addition to AZ [click to read] and others.
