Mastermind - Volume 50: Street Legal

Sunday, March 11, 2001 | Author: ------

Without a doubt Mastermind is Canada's premiere Hip Hop DJ. His latest mixtape, Street Legal, is likely one of the most polished and clean mixes that you will ever hear. Each track is mixed well, either by blending harmoniously with the next or by subtle scratching techniques. However, one drawback to Mastermind's mixes, as good as they are, is that they do lack personality.

Unfortunately, Mastermind chooses never to alter the songs themselves, a little more beat juggling or switching of the a cappellas and beats would go a long way to making the mix more unique. However, Mastermind does excel in choosing the appropriate cuts with which to bless his mixes.

Mastermind has always ridden the fine line between mainstream and underground, and this same style pervades on Street Legal. Listeners are treated to everything from the likes of the underrated Big L, Dilated Peoples, Pharoahe Monch, and Jurassic 5 to the freshest new songs by N.W.A., Saukrates and Brassmunk, and Kardinal Offishal and Rah Digga.

With this diverse staple of artists and sounds Street Legal will remain enjoyable for months, and will likely claim a spot in any collector's CD player.

Peace
