Lil Bow Wow - Beware of Dog

Monday, November 20, 2000 | Author: ------

Jermaine Dupri has done it again. The veteran producer has introduced another young urban phenom into the hip hop industry This time around for the year 2000, JD has brought his talented 13-year old protege Lil' Bow Wow into the music spotlight.

Before you have any preconceived notions about this album, I would definitely keep in mind Jermaine Dupri's track record with developing young adolescent talents. For example, groups like Xscape and Kriss Kross have excelled and profited from the production of Jermaine Dupri and the So So Def camp.

Lil Bow Wow
is definitely a great talent and spits out some serious lyrics throughout his debut album. Tracks like Puppy Love, You Know Me and his first single Bounce With Me displays the So So Def incumbent can hold his own in the rap game. The track, I would suggest to lock into would be LBW's second single, Bow Wow (That's My Name) featuring Hip Hop's Immortal Giant Snoop Dogg. This cut could be a potential classic in the urban music category.

Even though, there isn't a really many flaws to the album. There are few set backs to the debut. First, Some of Bow Wow's tracks sound kind of a dry and lacking any foundation. Tracks like Ghetto Girls and The Dog in Me don't really fit in Bow Wow's debut. The second drawback could be his young age. I understand he has been in the game for about 5 years now and he has few cameo appearances, however, Some of his lyrics on the album does show his immature stage and his inexperience.

Beware of Dog is definite keeper and a trademark to the So So Def dynasty. This album is clear cut winner in my opinion to potentially be rated for best debut album of the year.
