Questlove’s artistic output continues to pay off in interesting ways, with The Roots drummer recently becoming a James Beard Award nominee.
His book, “something to food about: Exploring Creativity with America’s Most Innovative Chefs,” which serves as a literary collab with Ben Greenman, was nominated for the James Beard Foundation Book Award for Nonfiction.
First established in 1990, the James Beard Awards were created to honor those who excel in cuisine, culinary writing, and culinary education.

The other two books nominated in the nonfiction category are “Food City: Four Centuries of Food-Making in New York” and “A Square Meal: A Culinary History of the Great Depression.”
In “something to food about,” Questlove takes part “in conversations with 10 innovative chefs in America” exploring “what makes their creativity tick,” according to the publisher’s description of the book.
Questlove didn’t shy away from expressing his excitement via Instagram, refusing to be “meh” with this particular accolade.

“Look, most chef’s I know be all ‘meh w accolades’ & that’s noble and humble,” Questlove wrote. “But just for 30 secs am I allowed to happy dance w being a #JamesBeard nom nom nominee for just a sec? Wow man, who knew being a fly on the wall watching others work and gathering life notes would lead to this?”
In his elated IG share, The Roots musician also revealed that he’s currently working on his fourth book.

If chosen for the James Beard Foundation Book Award for Nonfiction, Questlove and Greenman will walk away with a certificate and a bronze medallion.
The 2017 James Beard Awards Gala is scheduled to take place on May 1 in Chicago.
