New York, NY -Ā

J. Cole has made more headlines for his onstage antics after forgetting some of his lyrics while performing with fellow Dreamville rapper Bas.

Bas had a show at Irving Plaza in New York City on Tuesday night (April 9) and brought out Cole as a surprise guest.

During his appearance, the North Carolina rap star attempted to perform his verse on Basā€™ 2018 hit ā€œTribe,ā€ but seemingly struggled to remember his rhymes.

ā€œYā€™all go ahead and help me out,ā€ Cole said on stage, while looking to Bas and the crowd to give him a helping hand.

Fans were quick to react to the viral moment, with some jokingly blaming the mishap on his controversial apology to Kendrick Lamar.

ā€œDelete this bro idk how much more I can take,ā€ one fan wrote.

J. Cole made his entrance at Basā€™ show after the Too High to Riot rapper welcomed a fan on stage to perform Coleā€™s verse on their 2013 collaboration ā€œLit.ā€

Halfway through the verse, Cole caught the fan and the rest of the crowd off guard by appearing on stage without warning.

As well as ā€œTribeā€ and ā€œLit,ā€ Bas and J. Cole also performed their latest collaboration ā€œH.Y.B.ā€ off Coleā€™s Might Delete Later mixtape, which dropped last week.

Itā€™s the closing track on that project that has made J. Cole the center of attention lately, with the Dreamville boss firing back at Kendrick Lamar on ā€œ7 Minute Drillā€ in response to his blistering verse on Future and Metro Boominā€™s ā€œLike That.ā€

However, just days after its release, Cole retracted his diss song and issued an apology to Kendrick during his headlining set at Dreamville Festival ā€” drawing criticism from fans and peers alike.

ā€œIā€™m so proud of [Might Delete Later], except for one part. Itā€™s one part of that shit that makes me feel like, man thatā€™s the lamest shit I did in my fuckinā€™ life, right? And I know this is not what a lot of people want to hear,ā€ he told the crowd.

ā€œI was conflicted because: one, I know my heart and I know how I feel about my peers. These two n-ggas that I just been blessed to even stand beside in this game, let alone chase they greatness. So I felt conflicted ā€™cause Iā€™m like, bruh, I donā€™t even feel no way. But the world wanna see blood.ā€

He continued: ā€œThat shit disrupts my fucking peace. So what I want to say right here tonight is in the midst of me doing that, trying to find a little angle and downplay this n-ggaā€™s fucking catalog and his greatness, I want to say right now tonight, how many people think Kendrick Lamar is one of the greatest motherfuckers to ever touch a fucking microphone? Dreamville, yā€™all love Kendrick Lamar, correct? As do I.ā€

ā€œI just want to come up here and publicly be like, bruh, that was the lamest, goofiest shit. I say all that to say it made me feel like 10 years ago when I was moving incorrectly. And I pray that God will line me back up on my purpose and on my path. I pray that my n-gga really didnā€™t feel no way and if he did, my n-gga, I got my chin out. Take your best shot. Iā€™ma take that shit on the chin, boy. Do what you do.

ā€œAll good. Itā€™s love. And I pray that yā€™all forgive a n-gga for the misstep and I can get back to my true path. Because I ainā€™t gonna lie to yā€™all, the past two days felt terrible. It let me know how good Iā€™ve been sleeping for the past 10 years.ā€
