Travis Scott Still Covets Grammy Award Despite 'Rough' Losses

Travis Scott is still hoping to get his hands on his first Grammy Award, despite the “rough” losses he’s endured.

In a teaser of his upcoming appearance on LeBron James’ The Shop, Cactus Jack spoke about his not-so-successful history at the awards show.

Despite his frustration at continually being snubbed and a growing apathy towards the Recording Academy from his rap peers, the Houston native admitted he still covets a gold gramophone due to what it represents.

“A lot of my peers are like, ‘Ah, fuck that award.’ I fuck with it,” he said. “You play football to win the Super Bowl, you play basketball to win championships.

“I don’t make music to win Grammys but it’s what that Grammy used to mean is what I always hold on to. Like, the idea of music […] That award, at one point, it’s held up to a higher stature.

“And I still believe in it, in a sense. You know, it gets rough at times but fuck, what the fuck?”

Scott also shared his thoughts about the rap categories not being televised, despite the genre’s commercial and cultural dominance over the last few decades.

“It’s crazy. It’s like, rap’s not on TV, right? So you sit there and then they air the show, the rap award, at like 2:00 or 1:30. But you gotta perform at, like, 8:30 so imagine losing at 1:30 and having to sit there for seven hours.

“It’s like, ‘Fuck this shit, I wanna just dip.’

Like many rappers before him, Travis Scott has had a turbulent relationship with the Recording Academy, to say the least.

He is 0 for 10 at the awards show since first earning a nomination in 2014 for his work on Kanye West‘s “New Slaves,” which lost out in the Best Rap Song category to Macklemore and Ryan Lewis‘ “Thrift Shop.”

His diamond-certified hit “Sicko Mode” with Drake also went home empty handed despite being nominated for two awards in 2019 (Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance), as did his blockbuster album Astroworld.

At this year’s awards, Scott was a hot favorite to win Best Rap Album for Utopia, but lost out to Michael by Killer Mike, who swept the majority of the Hip Hop categories.

The 32-year-old appeared to vent his frustration at the ceremony, smashing folding chairs against the stage floor and ad-libbing the phrase, “They slept on me 10 times” during a fiery performance of “FE!N” with Playboi Carti.

He also posted a raised eyebrow emoji on X (formerly Twitter) after the show.
