HipHopDX Premiere: It’s no secret minimum wage jobs don’t support the average family. New York native AmirSaysNothing takes that concept and draws on it for his new video, “Employee Of The Month,” which tells the story of a working class rapper. The song serves as the title track of his 2016 album, a journey into the life of a hardworking, ambitious young man.

“This is the bloodline to my album,” Amir tells HipHopDX. “This sets the stage. It’s about breaking the status quo and fucking shit up. I’m beyond happy to see this visual come to life. This is for all my people who used to stay up late and watch the old shows on Nick at Nite. Think of this as ‘Employee Of The Month’ the movie, or the TV show — wake up, get out of your day job and get money for yourself. It’s about knowing that there’s something bigger out there.”

Influenced by artists like Outkast, A Tribe Called Quest, Ice Cube, Slug from Atmosphere (who shouts him out in the video for “Ringo”) and Killer Mike, who he’s been fortunate enough to build relationships with, Amir uses “Employee Of The Month” as a chance to throw in his two cents. Watch it above.
