HipHopDX Premiere: Priority Records artist Mauie The King Jr. has surfaced with a new video for “Dear Summer,” which finds him dissecting the words: “Success is the best revenge.” The visual kicks off with a news anchor reporting on an armed robbery before viewers see what really went down, but at the same time, offers a deeper metaphor.

“[The phrase] is that minuscule feeling that lingers after success, that enables retribution against all doubters,” Mauie tells HipHopDX. “The motives were old friends who never believed in my talent. Instead of performing and bringing joy to these fake ‘friends,’ my rise does the opposite, taking away their happiness. The robbery represents much more than taking expensive jewelry and money. It represents the power over the opposition who wants to see you fail. ‘Dear Summer’ is an ode to those whose feelings for others  change like the seasons.”

Watch it above.
