Kid Cudi‘s Hollywood takeover is set to continue with a new role in the new M. Night Shyamalan film Trap, and it marks a reunion with an “old friend.”

Mr. Rager took to Instagram on Thursday (April 18) to share the trailer for the upcoming movie and express his excitement at starring alongside his acting buddy Josh Hartnett, who helped create one of his most iconic music videos.

He added: “MAKE SURE YALL LOCK IN AND CHECK THIS SHIT OUT ITS CRAZY!! CMON ITS M NIGHT MANE!!! And SALEKA, cant wait for the world to see you shine so bright!! U are a treasure,” referring to M. Night Shyamalan’s daughter.

Hitting theaters on August 2, Trap is a mystery thriller that “follows a father and teen daughter attending a pop concert, where they realize they’re at the center of a dark and sinister event.”

Hartnett isn’t Kid Cudi’s only old friend who is involved with the movie. The rapper’s longtime producer Dot Da Genius also revealed that he helped compose the score for the film.

Alongside the trailer, Dot wrote on Instagram: “I get a call from Cudi one day, he’s like, ‘Are you ready? We gotta make music for this M Night movie.’ That’s all I needed to hear. Been watching M Night’s work since I saw Unbreakable.

Dot, who previously soundtracked Cudi’s award-winning animated Netflix series Entergalactic, spoke to HipHopDX last year about his ambitions to expand into film and TV scores.

“I’m gonna continue doing what I do, and that’s just creating music at an honest and high level. But in addition, I do have aspirations of growing outside of the normal producer box,” he said.

“And that’s to hopefully bring opportunities to other creatives, artists, producers, songwriters and engineers. To continue to help other people realize their dreams musically and grow outside of what I’m doing and create in another way.”

Kid Cudi and M. Night Shyamalan’s relationship also runs deep. Back in February, the famed director gifted Cudi a series of hardcover scripts of some of his most popular films for his 40th birthday.
