As a woman who’s focused on her personal growth — a focus that was touched upon in this past season of Love and Hip Hop: New York — Brittney Taylor’s progression from “model and muse” to MC is, seemingly, a natural one.
“2019 is going to be a really big year for me,” she told HipHopDX.com exclusively at an event in New York City. “I have a single coming out, followed by the mixtape, then another single, and finally the EP.”
Taylor’s career trajectory is moving her away from the front of the lens — where she served as said “model and muse,” not to mention a star on Mona Scott’s long-running reality-based show — and toward the front of the mic.

Not, mind you, that she comes to her second mixtape — Jack Rabbit Vol. 2, the follow-up to Jack Rabbit Vol. 1, which was hosted by Bigga Rankin — with just reality television cache. To the contrary, Taylor — who frequently goes by Brittney T. when she’s behind the mic — has received co-signs from the likes of Snoop Dogg and Trina.
The latter, in fact, called Taylor her “daughter” and took her under her wing as a protégé of sorts. Together, the two released some music, including the hard-bumpin’ “Like This,” which features the Miami-based “Queen Rapstress” and the Queens-born rising star trading verbal barbs that rival and even surpass their male counterparts.
Not a bad first-time outing for a woman in Hip Hop — a notoriously predatory and competitive industry that’s made doubly so when estrogen is added into the mix, as evidenced by rap’s female beefs that have sported the big names to ever do it, such as Nicki Minaj, Lil Kim, Foxy Brown and Remy Ma.
Taylor, however, doesn’t want to get caught up in catty beef, and says that it’s better for business if women in Hip Hop learn to get along with one another, rather than engage in petty drama. “Sometimes you’ve gotta switch things up,” she said. “And that’s really what I’m down to do. Of course, a little competition behind the mic is always necessary [in Hip Hop]. But when you get too vicious, it’s not good. And when labels come to my door after they listen to the tape — and they see my team, especially the women on my team — they’re gonna see that we’re focusing on getting rich. Not all the rest of the nonsense.”
Brittney Taylor’s next single is scheduled to come out on Valentine’s Day, and she says that fans can expect a combination of her singer-songwriter skills with her rapping skills, and — hopefully — this will give her a chance to flex her entrepreneurial skills, as well.

“For this single, you’re going to compare me to people like Drake, The Weeknd, PARTYNEXTDOOR,” she said. “Maybe even with some early Missy Elliott vibes. And even though, right now, I’m independent, I’ve switched to the mindset of trying to get on a major label for the first time in my life. I like being independent, but I want to be able to be funded by someone who can help me help other artists’ dreams come true, too. I’m trying to do it with an all-girls label, you know? So I’m not taking a deal unless they understand that the deal I have with y’all brings everybody on my team up…especially the ladies.”
